Carstenz Pyramid 7 Summits

Carstensz Pyramid

Carstensz Pyramid Expedition

Carstensz Pyramid is the highest mountain peak in Oceania with 4,884 m (16,024 feet) high. Although this mountain is more considered by experts as part of Oceania, it is also located within the borders of Indonesia, which is on the Asian continent. It also has the highest number of alternative names among other summits. Some of the names include Puncak Jaya, Puncak Jaya Kesuma, and Jaya Kesuma.

The standard route to climb the peak from its base camp is up the north face and along the summit ridge, which is all hard rock surface. Normally, expeditions will fly to the nearest airport, Timika. From there they take a helicopter to Base Camp. Puncak Jaya is one of the most demanding climbs of the Seven Summits, despite having the lowest elevation. It is held to have the highest technical rating. The mountain is said to be best climbed from April to November.
