In Nepali, Mount Everest is known as Sagarmatha. This means “Peak of Heaven.” Chomolungma means “Goddess Mother of the World” in Tibetan. It is the Earth’s highest mountain above sea level. This mountain is located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. The international border between Nepal and China (Tibet Autonomous Region) runs across its summit point. The current official elevation is 8,848 metres. There are two main climbing routes. The “standard route” is the one approaching the summit from the southeast in Nepal. The other one is from the north in Tibet. The risk of frostbite to climbers on Everest is extremely high.
